Dimebon (latrepirdine) is an investigational drug candidate for the treatment of Huntington disease. About Huntington Disease Huntington disease is a progressive, neurodegenerative disease that affects approximately 30,000 patients in the U.S., with another 150,000 at risk, and approximately 26,000 patients in the E.U. It is caused by the death of specific brain cells and is characterized by the gradual development of involuntary muscle movements, cognitive impairment and severe behavioral disturbances. No medications are currently approved by the FDA to treat the cognitive impairment (thinking and memory problems) experienced by patients with Huntington disease.
