Job Description:

Medivation, Inc. (NASDAQ: MDVN – www.medivation.com), a publicly traded biopharmaceutical company located in San Francisco, is currently seeking a qualified, highly motivated individual for the position of Accountant/Senior Accountant, reporting directly to the Senior Manager, Clinical Finance.

The company is currently focused on three programs in late stage clinical development, targeting large, unmet medical needs.  Dimebon is in two global Phase 3 trials in Alzheimer’s and Huntington disease.  The company’s second compound, MDV3100 is in two global Phase 3 trials in castration-resistant prostate cancer, and will be entering Phase 3 this year.

This position reports to the Sr. Manager – Clinical Finance.  Successful candidate should have good general accounting knowledge, analytical, organization and communication skills.  Advanced Excel user preferred.  Responsibilities include month-end accruals, clinical model maintenance, account reconciliations, accounts payables, purchase orders and audit lead schedules preparations.


Key Responsibilities include but not limited to the following:

  • Month-end close
  • Review and prepare summary for material contracts
  • Review contractual terms and ensure data accuracy in clinical models for payment and accrual purpose
  • Track activities, milestones, timelines and budgets for assigned clinical trials
  • Review voucher and purchase order coding and documentation in accordance with company policies
  • Enter vouchers and purchase orders
  • Communicate with vendors to resolve payable issues.
  • Review and prepare open clinical purchase orders accruals
  • Assist in quarterly and annual audits
  • Assess opportunities for potential automation of relevant processes
  • Perform ad-hoc analyses and other projects as required

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or other business degree
  • Between 3-7 years of accounting experience
  • Good understanding of US GAAP
  • Good understanding in advanced Excel skills (e.g. pivot tables, nested if and lookup statements, Countifs, data verification etc.).  Ability to organize, summarize and audit huge database a real plus.
  • Proficiency in Great Plains or similar accounting software package
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong general ledger account reconciliation, month-end close, reconciliation experience
  • Detail-oriented, action/goal-oriented, follow through and drive projects to timely completion
  • Demonstrated good organizational skills, good judgment and written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to work independently as well as work in a team-oriented and fast paced environment
  • Some knowledge of biopharmaceutical industry
