Medivation’s business is built on the identification and rapid development of product candidates that show breakthrough potential in important human diseases with suboptimal or ineffective current therapies. Our current portfolio consists of small molecule drugs in clinical development to treat three large, unmet medical needs—Alzheimer’s disease, Huntington’s disease and castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC).

Dimebon, our lead product candidate in neurology, is an orally available, small molecule agent that is in clinical testing for the treatment of Alzheimer’s and Huntington’s diseases—progressive, devastating conditions with limited treatment options. Based on the clinical and preclinical data generated to date, Medivation believes that Dimebon operates by a novel mitochondrial mechanism of action. Dimebon has potent effects on mitochondria that improve neuron health and function.

MDV3100, our lead candidate for CRPC, is a novel small molecule androgen receptor antagonist. Based on preclinical research, MDV3100 may block prostate tumor growth in both castration-resistant and hormone-sensitive prostate cancer more effectively than currently available therapies. The treatment of CRPC represents a critical unmet medical need, as patients with this stage of the disease have few treatment options and a very high mortality rate.
